GHB Addiction and Treatment

GHB Addiction

GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid or 4-hydroxybutanoic acid), which was originally used to help bodybuilders stimulate muscle growth, has grown into a major addiction problem. This designer drug now has made the crossover to the mainstream youth of our society. The result can sometimes lead to life threatening seizures, coma, and even death if the problem is not addressed and dealt with quickly.

It has many street names, including “G”, “Liquid X”, “Liquid E”, “Georgia Home Boy”, “Juice”, “Mils”, “Liquid G”, and “Fantasy”.

A Difficult Addiction to Overcome

Those who have abused GHD will over time experience both physical and psychological disorders that will end up taking over the person’s entire life. Trying to quit without the proper medical guidance can lead to some major withdrawal symptoms that can become so difficult to bear that breaking away on your own may literally be impossible. You might experience insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, sweating, chest pain and tightness, muscle and bone pain to mention only a few. Some of these can be so severe that they may even be debilitating. The best way to break free from the GHD habit will be to get professional help.

Long Term Effects

For the person that has become addicted to GHD it may be difficult to quit. Those who remain in the clutches of this drug will eventually discover that they may be suffering from liver damage, tremors or seizures, respiratory problems that could prove to be life threatening, slurred speech, hallucinations, and difficulty concentrating.

GHD Addiction Treatments

Getting on GHD is a whole lot simpler than getting off of it. Most people will require the assistance of medically trained professionals in order to succeed. By going to a drug abuse treatment center, withdrawal symptoms can be seriously reduced and sometimes eliminated all together.

You will first go through a period of detox that may take a few days or weeks depending on your amount of drug usage before you entered into the program. Once detox is complete and your system is clean you will begin the recovery phase of your treatment. This will be done through intensive individual and group counseling sessions along with other additional services that you may need. The additional services you receive can be different for everyone and will be determined by the type of treatment program you received. For some, it could be a stay at a luxury rehab center and for others it may be more social in nature.

Whatever the case, chances are that if you need to break free from the GHD habit you’ll need some type of professional assistance to make the break clean.

Your Insurance

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers can be very cost prohibitive so you’ll want the backing of your insurance company before you proceed. Most addiction centers can get you started immediately so make sure that everything is in order before you proceed. This way, you’ll be sure to get the treatment you need at a cost that you can afford. There is nothing more difficult than breaking a drug habit of any kind. Still, the grip that the drug has on anyone who is under its influence can be loosened if you have the right help to get you through it.
